In this video, BlueCat Founder and Judge Gordy Hoffman discusses character arcs and themes. Gordy says that the best arcs are the ones that take a long time to unfold, such as over the course of one’s lifetime. Or, one that represents a radical departure from the character at the beginning of the story. As for theme, Gordy says often that readers are going to find themes in your work that you may not have considered or anticipated. Because of this, you may be frustrated if you build your screenplay around one particular theme.
