What Writers Say About BlueCat

Here are some recent comments we received from our writers:

The feedback, especially for the stage my work is in, was invaluable. It was concise, articulate, and pointed - with both the praise and the criticism. The comments are allowing me to return to the work with a fresh eye and see where I can improve. I would definitely say it was worth the entrance fee - after all, your Family and Friends cannot possibly be as objective!

-Erin. Q

What a great analysis! Your script analysis has helped me more than any book or course I have taken to pinpoint what needs work to make my script successful. The analysis alone is worth the price of entry, and makes this contest more rewarding for everyone who enters than any other contest out there. I won an excellent analysis just by entering! Thanks, Gordy, and everyone at BlueCat.

-George M.

The analysis was extremely insightful on both the macro and micro levels, enabling me to see how the script's narrative flow can be improved, and how well dialogue and individual scenes reveal character development.

-Gideon S.

The analysis on my feature spec script was perfectly balanced -- supportive and encouraging, as well as helpful in the extreme on how to make the material stronger. The notes covered both the big ticket items -- story, theme and characterization -- and specifics, such as individual scenes or snatches of dialogue that worked...or needed work.

Overall, the feedback left me grateful, motivated and energized, ready to dive back into the rewrite. Thanks Gordy, to you and your entire BlueCat team!

-John A.

I got a professional, honest, constructive and inspiring feedback that addressed detailed events, format issues and the basic story. This competition is a perfect way to get your script onto a professional desk for an amateur and learning writer like myself.

-Tobias S.

Thank you for the insightful feedback. The reviewer did an excellent job of pointing out what worked in the script and indentifying the areas that needed tweaking. Was also blown away by how detailed my analysis was. He/she referenced specific scenes and even page numbers in the notes. Above and beyond guys.

-Steve H.

Thanks very much for the feedback. I can tell the reader paid close attention to detail throughout the entire script. The notes are very thorough, clear, and make sense. Thanks again.

-Bob M.

Worth the cost of admission for the script analysis alone. The readers are the real thing: experienced, thorough, thoughtful. For new writers, the feedback brings much-needed objectivity and guidance. For everyone, it helps to cleanse, clarify and take it up another level.

-Paul T.

Thank you very much for extremely pertinent notes. Thanks to you, I can see exactly where changes need to be made to pull in and streamline both scripts.

-Orlanda S.

The difference between BlueCat and any other screenplay contest is analysis. As a writer you know your work was read, really read, and given a thorough chance. And even if you aren’t quite there yet to receive the “big prize,” your consolation (if you want to call it that) is insight into your strengths and weaknesses as a writer. We aren’t talking type-Os here, this is deep, truthful, meaty feedback that cuts to the heart of your screenplay’s strengths and weaknesses.

-Nat

When I first saw the email containing my script analysis, I cringed: Did they like my "baby"? Or did they rip it apart? I held my breath, closed my eyes, and clicked. To my delight, the critique was respectful, concise and direct. The reader had obviously taken time to read the screenplay carefully, and seemed to care about helping me make it as good as possible. Not only were they specific about what needed work, but pointed out in detail what they liked - which efficiently focused my compulsive fine tuning. For only the cost of a contest entry, I was astonished to receive such a compassionate and professional analysis.

-Katheryn S.

I had figured my screenplay was finished, but after I received the analysis, I looked at my work again. First, the technical input was helpful, after I redid this screenplay; I went back and redid my others. After reading the comments, I had to reassess my script-I was proud of it, but I am very happy with the tweaking I gave it based on BlueCat’s input. I appreciated the fact that they listed what they liked about it first and then gave valuable analysis of the screenplay.

-Joseph W.

I was very pleased with BlueCat's sophisticated and comprehensive analysis. I found all of their notes to be constructive, and I was impressed with the fact that they took pains to point out specific lines of dialogue and subtle plot elements from the screenplay that they enjoyed.

-Joshua S.

I've entered Blue Cat twice, and the feedback was very professional and very helpful in both instances. I was made aware of issues with my scripts that no one else had mentioned, which was invaluable in my rewrite, and one of those scripts semifinals of another competition AFTER I followed Gordy's advice. Thanks again.

-Lynne L.

I was very impressed with the quality of my BlueCat script analysis. It is clear from the specificity of the reviewer's comments that he/she had read the script carefully and in its entirety. I was pleased to read the many positive comments about my script, but perhaps more importantly, the reviewer's suggestions for improvement were thoughtful, insightful and helpful. This kind of perceptive and constructively worded critique is worth many times the price of submission. Thank you very much for providing such high quality script analysis.

-Jonathan G.

What made your script analysis so useful above all was that it seemed to recognize my vision. I shall continue to develop this project, thanks in large part, to your notes.

-Mike L.

Thank you so much. This was like putting puzzle pieces together as I wrote it, and I guess a couple of pieces were still missing. Your feedback helped tremendously and will definitely help make my script better. Thanks again Gordy Hoffman.

-Kimberly G.

The script analysis I received was an incredibly useful tool in my quest to write an inspirational and successful screenplay. The feedback was extraordinarily insightful, honest, and instrumental as I entered the rewrite phase. Thank you BlueCat!

-Kerry L.

In fifteen years of playwriting and theatrical productions, I have never had such an in-depth analysis of a script as I received from Blue Cat. Though initially disappointed that I was not among the finalists, after reading their critique, I was inspired and motivated to sit down immediately and rewrite. New to the art of screenwriting, I feel as though I completed screenwriting 101 through 104 after this detailed analysis of my script. My rewrite is now character focused with action, simple and clean, in active versus passive voice, and in compliance with industry standards. I could have spent weeks and months in screenwriting courses and not be as satisfied with a rewrite as I am now. You know when your script zings through in a read.
Wishing you the same,

-Jean B
