Demystifying Screenplay Concept and Theme

A fun sit-down with Gordy Hoffman, founder and judge of the BlueCat Screenplay Competition, answering questions from up and coming filmmakers and screenwriters. In this episode, Gordy tackles the difference between screenplay concept and theme.

Chase the idea.

It’s hard to define a difference between concept and theme. Some writers like to come up with an overall theme and use that to center their scripts. Others like to start with a concept that sparks them to tell their story. Regardless of how you work, the key is to chase your idea. Stay focused on that one thing that drove you to start writing. The more you do that, the better your script will become.

Ask your own questions on Facebook and Twitter and make sure to keep writing!
