Kathy Garcia Testimonial

BlueCat’s hard work and dedication really comes from a sincere wish to help the writer, but most importantly, the story. Not only did these readings help me to ‘experience’ my script and pinpoint where it needed work, but they also helped it to become real for me, not just a page. An invaluable gift for any writer. These people get it.

Gordy’s affable good nature makes everyone feel comfortable at the table, creating a family for the afternoon. He uses his extensive knowledge of story and his passion for the craft to help those screenwriters find ways to improve their work. At the end of the day, one comes away feeling inspired, energized and full of ideas for the next rewrite. I highly recommend his workshop for aspiring and seasoned writers.

During my graduate cinema studies at USC, one of my script writing professors, Professor Hoffman, taught me not only how to develop and write a good story, but also how to use my own eyes to discover the people, the life and the world created in my stories. Hoffman taught us how to instill passion, love, and persistent emotion, all the while encouraging and supporting us as filmmakers.

The BlueCat Screenwriting workshop is by far one of the best I’ve attended. I especially like how Gordy kept our group focused and engaged by offering solid advice with minimal direction encouraging us to be creative – he’s quite a comedian too.

Gordy effortlessly manages to deliver thorough, honest, constructive criticism yet does so with a sincere warmth and kindness. You get the notes you need to make your work better, but you leave feeling empowered and cared for as a writer rather than stressed or upset about the parts of your script that need work. Gordy has the experience and knowledge to deliver results and the heart and character to make you feel excited about writing. Gordy truly believes in each of his writer’s talent and ability to succeed. As a writing instructor myself now, I can only hope that my writers leave my workshop feeling as delighted and charged up about writing their script as I used to when I would leave Gordy’s presence.

Alvaro Rodriguez

The Full Script Workshop gave me an insightful, interactive opportunity to find the strengths and weaknesses in my screenplay before I jumped into the next, undoubtedly better draft. Gordy’s conversational approach manages to be holistic and scene-specific at the same time, with commentary that comes from the head, heart and gut. I’d jump at the chance to do it again.

A superb workshop! Hoffman really understands story and character, plus he’s an excellent teacher. His ability to work with writers about their ideas, finding the flaws and gems, is impressive. Everyone came away armed with heaps of useful knowledge that will improve their script by leaps and bounds. Absolutely worth the money.

A huge thank you to Gordy for an amazing workshop! During those eight hours I literally started to think about crafting my work in a manner that I hadn’t before. I have read a lot of screenwriting books and attended more then a few writers groups. There is simply no substitute for sitting with a group of writers, an expert like Gordy and honestly examining the work, page by page. The workshop was not just about the script I brought to the table, but who I was as a writer and how I could start to generate my best scripts. I highly recommend this workshop to any screenwriter serious about their craft and ready to take their writing to the next level. I left inspired and re-energized. I will be back!
