2019 BlueCat Short Film Festival FAQ

Isn’t BlueCat a screenplay competition?

Yes, it is! But after having success with our first Short Film Festival, we decided to do it again. We are now accepting submissions for our next Short Film Festival.

Where can I submit my film?

Films can be submitted through FilmFreeway and Withoutabox. Please visit our BlueCat Short Film Festival page to find links for submission. Please only submit through one of these two sites. 

Do you have awards?

Yes, the following catergories will be announced:

  • Best Short
  • Best Director
  • Best Script
  • Best Performance

How long can my film be?

Submissions must be under 50 minutes.

How many films are chosen for the Festival?

We will be selecting approximately 5-10 films to be screened.

Will my film be screened?

If your film is selected as a finalist, it will be screened at the Landmark Theatre in Los Angeles on April 30th, 2019.

What’s the latest I can submit my film?

The Late Deadline for submissions is February 3rd, 2019. For more information on deadlines, please check out our BlueCat Short Film Festival page.

When will I find out if my film was accepted?

All entrants will receive a notification by March 1st, 2019.

How many times can I enter?

There is no limit to the number of films a single filmmaker can enter into the competition.

How old can my film be?

Submitted films must be produced after January 1st, 2015.

Are there any restrictions on genre?

No, we accept films of all genres.

Do you accept animated films?

Yes, we have no restrictions on genre.

Do you accept documentary films?

Yes, we have no restrictions on genre.

Can I submit if my film is in a language other than English?

Yes, but if your film is not in English, you must include English subtitles with your submission.

How old do I have to be to submit?

We accept submissions from filmmakers of all ages.

Do you have waivers?

No, unfortunately, we cannot offer any waivers at this time.
